JUST IN: Teachers Professional Allowances payment ‘flopped’ two months to Election 2020

Teachers who were in high anticipation of their intended Professional Development Allowances in October were shocked after validators announced that the October 2020 Salary being validated do not include the said allowances.

The Professional Development Allowance, which is expected to be a GH¢1,200 for Professional teachers and a GH¢800 for nonprofessional teachers could not hit the teachers accounts as expected.

The Allowance

The Professional Development Allowance of Teachers was agreed and contained in the August 2020 Condition of Service for Staff of the Ghana Education Service as agreed in its Collective agreement with  stakeholders including the Teacher Unions.

The main purpose of the Allownces is to help teachers acquire skills in their Professionaln Development on the job.

Teachers are expected to use the allowances to attend  workshops and seminars that relates to their personal development .

The said amount is expectd to be paid with a GH¢100 monthly for all professional teachers.

The  October Promise

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT)  has confirmed that the Teachers Continuous Professional Development allowance will be paid in October, 2020.

This was said at the National Council Meeting of GNAT organised from the 29th September to 3rd October, 2020 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology( KNUST).

The GNAT said Ghc1,200.00 shall be paid to professional teachers for their professional development whilst
Non-professional teachers shall  receive Ghc800.00.

Politics

The Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) has reminded teachers to consider the GH¢1200 Professional Development Allowances yet to be paid them by the government when voting on December 7, 2020.

The Minister was speaking at the Launch of the VOLTA NPP Teachers Network, a group of Teachers at the Pre-Tertiary Education Level supporting the New Patriotic Party in the Volta Region.

The Launch was held at the Ho Technical University main auditorium on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

Speaking at the event, the Education Minister said, the Teachers should remember the NPP Government when voting on December 7, 2020.

He added, that by the time teachers shall receive their ballot papers to cast their votes on December 7, they shall remember their Professional Development Allowances.
