The National Council of Private School Teachers (N-COPST), is a body made of private school teachers. It was set up to seek the well-being of all Private school teachers across the length and breadth of Ghana.

Due to the official letter submitted to the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) by the National Teaching Council (NTC) with reference number NTC/LIC/RT/356/2/18 dubbed “LICENSING AND REGISTRATION OF QUALIFIED TEACHERS IN GHANA” on the 14th April, 2021”, it has become necessary that the National Council of Private School Teachers (NCOPST) organizes a seminar for all private school teachers to be educated on the Teacher License acquisition and renewal, the Licensure Examination and the purpose of the Continuing Professional Development (CDP) Programmed to help teachers acquire teacher license to qualify and accept for the teaching profession in Ghana.
In the NTC letter submitted to NaSIA, it was stated and I quote “It is further to be noted that all qualified teachers who fail to avail themselves for this licensing and registration exercise shall lose their legal right to practice as teachers in Ghana in accordance with section 64 (1) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020, Act1023”

The National Council of Private School Teachers has the private school teachers in
heart and would do all we can to make sure teachers in private schools in Ghana survive and qualify for the teaching profession in Ghana.

We are by this letter invite all your teachers and headteachers to a day seminar on TEACHER LICENSE EDUCATION. We have put up strategies to acquire temporal and permanent teacher license for all private school teachers (ie Teachers
with SHS Qualification, Teachers with Diplomas, Degrees, Masters etc in different field of study and Teachers with Certificate in Education) in Ghana. Also, structures have been made for the CPD Programmes for all private school teachers so as to renew their license to maintain and remain in the teaching profession.

Attending this seminar is a step in good direction for teachers to acquire temporal and permanent teacher license. The temporal teacher license data will be taken for NTC on the day of the seminar so teachers with SHS qualification, and teachers with Diplomas, Degrees, Masters in different field of study are to be present. Also, teachers with certificate in education will be grouped into two on the day of the seminar:

Group 1 – Teachers who will be awarded the license without writing the licensure examination

Group 2 – Teachers who have to sit for the licensure examination before acquiring the license NCOPST is ready to assist all the teachers in the classrooms of private schools in Ghana to acquire teacher license. We have had numerous meetings with NTC and all is well.

We have permanent, temporal and provisional license. The permanent license is awarded to graduate teachers while the temporal license is awarded to teachers with no qualification in education. The provisional license is awarded to teachers who are in the process of acquiring license. These are different types of license available for teachers of all categories.
